5 Day Surf Camp Curriculum

Welcome to the E Street Surf School! This 5-day curriculum is specifically designed for beginner surfers, focusing on safety, fundamental skills, and most importantly, having an action-packed and exhilarating time in the ocean. Each session is 2 hours long and includes a dedicated snack and hydration break.

Camp Overview

Duration: 5 Days Session Length: 2 Hours/Day Target Audience: (Beginner)

  • Introduce core surfing techniques and ocean safety with a focus on challenge and mastery.

  • Build confidence and physical capability in and around the water.

  • Foster teamwork, healthy competition, and respect for the ocean.

  • Ensure every camper has a memorable and empowering surfing experience!

Daily Schedule

(2 Hours)

  • 0-15 mins: Welcome & Warm-Up (Dynamic stretching, quick drills, safety briefing, and team huddle)

  • 15-30 mins: Skill Focus & Demonstration (On-sand practice: Wetsuit & Leash, Board Handling, Waxing, Pop-up drills)

  • 30-90 mins: In-Water Practice & Coaching (Catching waves, improving paddle, pop-up attempts)

  • 90-105 mins: Power-Up Snack & Hydration Break! (Recharge and refuel)

  • 105-115 mins: High-Energy Surf Challenge/Game/Craft (varies daily)

  • 115-120 mins: Debrief, Q&A, and Mission Brief for Next Day

Curriculum Breakdown

Day 1: Ocean Recon & Gear Mastery

  • Theme: Gearing up, understanding the ocean's power, and mastering the board.

  • Learning Objectives:

    • Understand essential ocean safety (rip currents, wave types, flag signals, buddy system).

    • Learn efficient ways to carry, handle, and wax a surfboard for optimal grip.

    • Properly put on a wetsuit and attach a leash with speed and precision.

    • Become comfortable submerging and holding breath for 5-10 seconds, building underwater confidence.

    • Master strong prone paddling technique on the board.

    • Practice "prone riding" (catching white water waves lying down).

Day 2: Pop-Up Domination!

  • Theme: Conquering the pop-up and establishing a strong surf stance.

  • Learning Objectives:

    • Refine prone paddling and steering for precise wave approach.

    • Learn a fast and fluid pop-up technique.

    • Understand and practice a powerful and balanced surf stance.

    • Develop quick reflexes for adapting to changing waves.

Day 3: Wave Rider Tactics & Control

  • Theme: Controlling the board on a moving wave and maximizing ride time.

  • Learning Objectives:

    • Improve pop-up consistency and speed on moving white water.

    • Develop refined balance and subtle board control for longer rides.

    • Learn safe falling techniques and efficient board recovery.

    • Introduction to basic "trimming" (shifting weight to move along the wave).

Day 4: Ocean Strategy & Wave Hunting

  • Theme: Reading the ocean and positioning for the best waves.

  • Learning Objectives:

    • Reinforce ocean awareness, currents, and understanding how waves break.

    • Begin identifying the "power zone" on white water waves for optimal take-off.

    • Consolidate paddling, pop-up, and riding for more extended glides.

    • Introduce concepts of positioning and timing for catching more waves.

Day 5: Ultimate Surf Challenge!

  • Theme: Putting all skills to the test and celebrating the week's achievements.

  • Learning Objectives:

    • Demonstrate enhanced surfing skills, confidence, and ocean awareness.

    • Reinforce all safety concepts and good surf etiquette.

    • Celebrate individual and group achievements in a high-energy, supportive environment.
