Kids Surf Camps 2026: Parent & Safety FAQ
How safe is surf camp for a child who has never surfed before?
Safety is our primary concern. We conduct all beginner instruction in waist-deep water where children can easily touch the bottom. Our proprietary 3:1 student-to-instructor ratio ensures every child receives constant, hands on supervision and personalized coaching from certified instructors.
Safety Ratio: 3 students per 1 instructor (the lowest on the Seacoast).
Certifications: All instructors are Red Cross CPR and First Aid certified with Lifeguard certified members on staff.
Zone: Designated shallow-water learning areas at Rye and Hampton.
My child is shy or nervous about the ocean—how do you handle that?
Our 3:1 ratio is designed specifically to support shy or nervous first-timers. We specialize in transitioning anxious or shy students into confident surfers through a low-pressure, gradual exposure method. Our boutique camp size ensures that timid children aren't lost in a crowd. We pair nervous campers with patient coaches who stay at their side, building trust in the shallow water before ever attempting a wave.
The "Slow-Start" Guarantee: No child is forced into a wave; we start with fun sand based safety instruction and games.
Small Groups: Keeping groups small reduces the social anxiety and allows for meaningful bonding with the surf coaches.
What equipment do parents need to provide for surf camp?
E Street Surf School provides all technical surfing equipment, including high quality wetsuits and soft top surfboards designed for maximum float and stability. Parents only need to provide basic beach essentials to ensure their child stays comfortable throughout the session.
Provided: Wetsuit, leash, and surfboard.
To Bring: Swimsuit, towel, waterproof sunscreen, a snack, and a water bottle.
Where are the drop-off and pick-up locations for the camps?
Our primary "Hub" is located at Common Roots Cafe (2203 Ocean Blvd, Rye, NH). For camps at "The Wall" in Hampton, we meet at 8th Street.
Rye Location: Inside Common Roots (ideal for parents to work via high-speed Wi-Fi).
Hampton Location: 8th Street at "The Wall." (Roughly 799 Ocean Blvd)
What is the daily schedule for the 5-Day Kids Surf Camp?
Our camps balance technical skill building with fun, fun, and more fun! A typical session includes a land based technique and safety briefing, two distinct water sessions, and a fun mid-camp activity. We "read the crowd". Some past examples of activities include bracelet making, tie-dyes, rock painting, and beach sports.
Land Demo: Pop-up mechanics and ocean safety protocols.
Water Time: Two surf sessions with 1-on-1 feedback.
Fun Activity: Surfer determined break activity. We're flexible!

I’m so grateful to E-Street Surfing! My 10 year old Granddaughter had the BEST experience. I really saw the joy in her being able to accomplish what she’s wanted to do for three years. Her instructors were fun to be with, very skilled and kept her safer in water than I ever could.
