A Different Kind of Studio Session

This past season, E Street Surf School partnered with several Seacoast New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts wellness studios, including Humble Warrior, The Hot Yoga Lounge, Club Pilates, and Seacoast Power Yoga, to bring their communities together by the ocean. The gatherings offered a refreshing change of scenery: a studio led warm-up on the shoreline, followed by 45 to 60 minutes of guided surfing.

Participants did not need to arrive with surf equipment or experience. E Street provided soft top boards, wetsuits, and hands on instruction, allowing everyone to focus on movement and the shared experience. For many, it was a first introduction to surfing in a supportive, low pressure setting. For others, it was simply an opportunity to spend time with familiar faces somewhere new, laugh, and connect.

The format was straightforward, but the atmosphere made each evening memorable. Beginning on the sand gave the group time to settle in, connect, and prepare before entering the water. From there, instructors helped participants work through the basics at a pace suited to the conditions and each member of the group.

A Shared Practice

Yoga, Pilates, and surfing may look different, yet each asks people to pay attention, adapt, and respect the process. A wave cannot be hurried or controlled through determination alone. Surfers must observe the ocean, find its rhythm, and respond to what is happening in the moment.

That mindset is familiar to people who practice intentional movement. Just as a challenging pose or exercise calls for patience and awareness, learning to surf involves accepting gradual progress. Participants listen to their instructors, notice the water around them, and learn from each attempt. The goal is not to force a particular result, but to work with the conditions and enjoy the experience.

Community

These surf nights are designed to be enjoyable, not intimidating. There is no expectation that participants become accomplished surfers in a single session. Some guests later return for E Street’s weekly Ladies Surf Nights on Tuesday and Thursdays or return for private lessons or a family/friend group surf.

For studio owners and instructors, the evenings offer a way to bring their communities outside their usual space and into the coastal outdoors. We are fortunate to live where we do! Members can connect beyond class, while instructors share an experience with students in a more informal setting.

Custom session photography and video is also available, giving participating studios a collection of polished images to remember the event and share with their community. More importantly, those images reflect the energy of the evening: movement, friendship, and time spent outdoors.

From the Seacoast to Costa Rica

The connections formed on local beaches can continue well beyond summer. This season, studio members and teachers who joined E Street in the water began building friendships around a shared appreciation for movement and the ocean. Several are now planning to continue that journey at

E Street’s Vitality Retreat in Nosara, Costa Rica, in April 2027.
